Rosa

Meet Rosa. When her father passed away at a young age, leaving her siblings in poverty, she promised to do her best to give her children a comfortable life. She grew up in uncertainty of if there would be food on the table and enough money for her to go to school. Her father’s death left everyone in the family filled with grief and scared about the future. He was their rock and their provider, and not having him with them was devastating.

Rosa was forced to go to the city at only 16 years old to find a job. The only work she could get at her age as a woman with limited education was a domestic helper. She found a way to enjoy her work and stayed committed to it in order to provide for her family. When she had children, her love and care for them only grew and she continued to work hard. Rosa remained in the city until she was 29 years old, and then decided it was time to return home.

She wanted to give her children a more stable life, and this was not possible in the city. Rosa was desperate for community and a steady income. When she heard about Dignity, she immediately applied and was excited to be offered a role in production. Her job includes all things coconut meat: inspection, slicing, and washing. Rosa’s dream of sending her children to school is more of a reality now than ever before.

She continues to find happiness in her family and is thankful for the opportunity to give her children what she wishes she had. Working at Dignity helps her family cover daily expenses, and Rosa shares that it has even fulfilled her dream of a better life, saying, “Our life has become comfortable.”
