Ma. Teresa

Ma. Teresa

Meet Teresa.

As a widow with no biological children of her own, she has committed to working to send her 4 nieces and nephews to school. She was not able to finish her own education, so she wants to do all she can to help others. Teresa began by finding a job doing laundry for families which helped her to give some support, but it was not enough.

Then, when her husband became ill she was left alone to care for him with no support. He eventually died and she was overcome with grief. Her person was no longer with her and she could not bear it. Teresa began to face health problems of her own, even finding herself in a coma for over a month. Even as she cared so much for those around her, she was left without help. The isolation took a toll on Teresa and she longed to get back to work. She needed people around her and a sense of purpose to recover.

By chance, she met one of the supervisors at Dignity and asked him if there were any jobs open. She was desperate to do something and wanted to keep sending her nieces and nephews to school.

When she got the job at Dignity, she shared that she “experienced a kind of peace and happiness.” She enjoyed being with coworkers, her health continued to get stronger, and she had people around who truly valued her. She no longer feels as alone and is thankful for the continued ability to send her nieces and nephews to school.
