Meet Melvin. When he was growing up, his family was forced to sell their land to make ends meet. They did not have enough money to send their kids to school and there were days where there was no food on the table. His background motivates Melvin to work hard in school and at his job to make his family’s sacrifice worth it. He hopes to one day bring stability to his family so that his younger siblings do not have to worry about their needs being met like he did.
Right after he graduated from college with a degree in management he found a job at Dignity. He started working as an Administrative Assistant and sees himself working for Dignity for a long time. He enjoys the work he does and the community he has found, and is proud to be setting a positive example for his younger siblings. Melvin shared how he has gained valuable real life work experience that has completely changed his perspective as well.
Rather than the idealized picture he had of the business world in his studies, he is getting to see how organizations really work behind-the-scenes. His time at Dignity has broadened his horizons and he has a new passion for community development. It is rare to find a stable job so quickly out of school and the stress of Melvin’s family has lightened as he can now help bring support. He has seen the transformation Dignity has made and is excited about what the future holds.
