Meet Shirley. She's a mother of three and enjoys gardening and landscaping, taking care of her three children, her husband and her household.
One of her biggest challenges was when her parents divorced. They were unable to care for all of the children after they separated, so the children were divided up between family relatives to be cared for. Shirley says, "It was incredibly painful as I did not have contact with my siblings for many years."
Her biggest wish in life is to see all of her children graduate from High School and go on to University since her and her husband had to drop out of school. She wants her children to be happy and content in life, and work at a good company after graduation.
Before working at Dignity, Shirley was a stay at home mom. Her husband, Reynier, was a construction worker and after work, he would fish to keep his family fed. However, as her children grew older and their financial needs grew, it was no longer enough for their family’s needs. Shirley wanted to help.
When Shirley met Dignity.
Shirley started here as housekeeper maintaining the cleanliness of the lunchroom, bathrooms, commons spaces, and production areas. Since then she has been promoted to her current role as Sanitation Team Lead. She is now in charge of documentation for the sanitation department, maintaining and tracking sanitation inventory, and supervising the overall cleanliness of the production areas. She now is able to help her husband with their family’s expenses and able to send her children off to school with pocket money.
Shirley says, "My life is transforming in so many ways. I am learning so much about love and sacrifice. I am even becoming closer to God.” Eventually, her siblings were all able to get back in touch with each other and now they all have happy healthy families of their own.
