Mayet

Meet Mayet. When her husband tragically passed away from cancer, Mayet was left to care for her children and pay off a pile of medical bills. She had been relying on her husband’s pension, but the money stopped coming when he passed away. She was heartbroken at his passing and unsure about what it would look like to work outside the home.

Mayet is in the 2% of people in this area who have a college degree. Her degree was in human resource management and before getting married she worked mostly in hotel service, but this was not an option outside the big city. She had a friend who worked at Dignity and this opened the door to a job in production. It was a challenging adjustment at first, but she quickly learned and started making friends. It paid well and was better than working in the city.

She still had to find someone to watch her child, but her expenses were not going toward expensive rent or transportation. Mayet learned to stand on her own and has vowed to help her children be more independent. She regrets being so dependent previously, but has found a supportive community at her new job and knows what true teamwork looks like. Mayet has been empowered to make a positive difference and is confident that her and her family will make it.
