Leo made a promise to his family - to give them a better future. One where he can provide for his family and where his kids can finish their studies. That is what Leo continues to strive for.
Leo is a loving husband and father. He is the type who would do everything for his family, especially to fulfill his dream for them. But, he was a simple farmer and it was extremely difficult for him to even provide for their daily expenses.
Determined to make something work, Leo decided to work in Manila, 13 hours away from his home and family. He found a job at a small store where he would sell dog food. Although this job helped him provide a bit more for his family, it was not enough for things beyond their daily needs.
The distance also created a lot of stress for the entire family. It was not easy for his wife to handle the entire household alone while he was away. This added to the already growing conflict between Leo and his wife’s family. Even before getting married, they were concerned they would not have a place to live and that he would not be able to make ends meet. It felt like pressure on top of pressure.
Then came Dignity.
He was given an opportunity to work as a machine operator where he was tasked to make sure that the machines were clean and in working order. This was new for him, but he took on the challenge, knowing that working in Dignity will allow him to be closer to his wife and his family.
Now, not only is he closer to his family, but he has grown to be someone he can personally be proud of. He was able to save up and get a modest house where he and his family can live together and finally call their own. Here are Leo’s own words: “I am proud of who I truly am now, my job, and my family. Working with Dignity gave my family a better life because it is a big help in paying for our daily expenses. I can see God is using Dignity to give us a better future.”
