Meet Karl Jay. When the financial and academic pressure became too much to bear, he was forced to drop out of school and find a new career. Karl’s dream had always been to become a teacher, but he put it on hold to find something practical to support himself. He was disappointed in himself for not being able to finish what he started, and vowed that eventually he would go back to school.
Until then, he moved far away from his hometown to find work. He got a job in the security sector which worked for a little while, but the boarding costs were too high. Karl could not afford to spend all of his money just on rent, and had no idea what he was going to do next. It was frustrating to find odd jobs just for earnings to be swallowed up by high transportation and living expenses.
Enter Dignity.
He heard about an opening from a friend and decided to take a chance applying. When he got the job, he moved back home to get a fresh start. He had lost the strength to pursue his dream of teaching and needed to be in community. Karl and his wife had just had their first child, and he needed job stability to continue supporting them.
At Dignity, he found the courage to go back to school and finish his teaching exams. Karl has his whole life ahead of him and knows now that he is capable of what he sets his mind to. He continues to set a positive example for his child and the community as he lives a life of joyful service.
