Meet Jocelyn. As a full-time homemaker for many years, Jocelyn and her 4 boys and 2 girls had a rough time when her husband became seriously ill with a lung disease. For six months she had to find a way to do it all … care for six children, cook and keep the home, and more. With no income and nothing for food and medications, she was desperate.
Dignity hired Jocelyn as a laundry specialist – handling the protective clothing and towels from the factory line workers. Even when her husband recovered she continued to work – not only because of the financial provision for the family, but also because of the self-esteem and independence she was gaining as she learned to work and grow. Jocelyn credits her work with Dignity for lifting her confidence as a mother, and teaching her responsibility that flowed over into her role as a loving and dependable parent.
Jocelyn enjoys cooking and encouraging her children in their schoolwork. With less than 2% of the people in the area having any post-high school education, Jocelyn plans to put ALL 6 of her children through college. And she keeps growing and expanding her skills at work as she has moved through four positions and now works in the Packaging and Sealing area. Now she calibrates the machine that puts on the lids with her co-workers’ signatures.
Jocelyn says, “What I can say about my life now that I work at Dignity is that I have learned to … hope. I now have a new inspiration, in addition to my family!”
