Now and then, right at the corner of two dirt roads, you’ll see a man silently crouched over caring for his plants. That’s Celso. He’s quite simple and prefers a quiet life, one where he enjoys tending to his vegetables and houseplants.
However, for Celso, a simple life was not easily within his reach. He worked as a construction worker, grinding and hustling every day to provide for his family. Yet even with all the work, it was never enough for their daily needs. As a construction worker, jobs were inconsistent and only on a per-project basis. Months would pass when he would not even be called into work.
Celso had hoped for a better life for his family and hoped to send his child to school, but even when they pooled together his and his wife’s earnings, their hopes and dreams seemed so far away. He started feeling down about how their life was panning out at the time; it seemed that it would take years before he could find his peace.
When Dignity came, he heard of the opportunities available for him, and he quickly applied for work. He became a Temperature Control Unit (TCU) Operator, where he ensures there is no oil spillage. This was far from what he was used to doing, but he enjoyed learning about the machines and their operation. He is happy as his work is now safer and more stable compared to what he used to do. He has even started providing for his family beyond their basic needs.
His son is in 5th grade, and he can finally see his dream of graduating college. Celso is saving up for a better future for his family and living a peaceful life. His hopes are coming true. He says, “When I started working, our daily life was no longer difficult. I am proud to be an employee of Dignity.”
