Before working for Dignity, Carol was a stay-at-home mom while her husband worked. At the time however, the money her husband was earning could not cover most of their basic needs. The financial stress became too much for them, especially for her husband, who then turned to alcohol to numb the pain. It wasn’t enough and soon he was also addicted to gambling. This took a toll on Carol and her family.
She decided to work for Dignity and became a part of the department that handles the coconuts directly. She ensures the quality of the coconuts: makes sure they are clean, inspects them, and slices them up for processing. She enjoys her work and always does her job well, even though she constantly thinks about the problems she will face when she goes home.
Carol had saved up money and planned to use it for starting up her own small store to help financially, thinking that this will help solve all their problems. But even the money she saved up for the store and for their family’s basic needs were spent by her husband. It affected their lives negatively as her husband was drunk and gambling daily. He became jobless, and they had to move back in with her in-laws. Carol was at a loss.
Carol joined some coworkers in a Bible study and they began praying for her situation. She shared, “It was so difficult for me. I cried day and night. I prayed to God and asked God to touch my husband’s heart and change him. I did not stop praying to God asking Him to change my husband, and God answered my prayers! My husband is now no longer like he was before.”
Carol’s relationship with her husband and her kids is completely healed. Her eldest is already married, her second is in college, and her two youngest are in high school and elementary school. They are doing well financially and hopes to see all her kids graduate from university, have their own families, and have a good future.
She says, “I am so proud of my children. I was able to raise them to be good, respectful and loving to their parents. It makes me happy to see them getting along with each other in all matters.” Since working with Dignity, Carol has become light-hearted and hopeful once again.
